The International Ocean Stewardship Forum will aim to strengthen the interface between the legal and technical aspects of marine policy making and implementation with a particular focus on the protection of the marine environment and issues arising from initiatives of Marine Protected Areas and the use of Marine Genetic Resources. Recognising the need for common understanding across the range of ocean use, the Forum will further embrace the legal-technical interface for issues including: CO2 shipping emissions, carbon sequestration, maritime territorial sovereignty and exploitation of marine resources, transportation of hazardous materials, environmental impact assessment, marine scientific research, implementation of international law instruments such as UNCLOS, OSPAR, etc.

Organised under the guidance and leadership of the UNCLOS group at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton http://www.unclosuk.org/, who deliver independent, high-quality scientific advice on territorial sovereignty, marine scientific research, resource management, and the preservation of the marine environment.
